Drilling and Chamfering of bore Ø5.0 mm with VEX-S

The Korean gear manufacturer was looking for a solution to machine and chamfer/deburr three different bores of shell rr annulus connector of a 8-shift-gear in one setup. This report covers the drilling and chamfering of 12 bores with Ø5.0 mm per workpiece.

First, the customer wanted to solve the aluminium version. Later, the steel annulus is planned to follow.

HEULE recommended their combined drilling and chamfering tool VEX-S 5.0 (GH-Q-O-4000) with SNAP chamfering insert (C0.25). First, It is drilling the hole, then chamfering the front bore edge and at the end chamfering the back bore edge. 

Machining parameters:

  • Cutting data drilling:
    Speed: 100 m/min 
    Feed: 0.2 mm/rev.
  • Cutting data chamfering:
    Speed: 72 m/min.
    Feed: 0.15 mm/rev.
  • Coolant: external coolant
