A chamfer is a bevelled surface on the edge of a bore. It serves not only to ensure health and safety at work, but also to protect the workpiece. This is because chamfered edges are less susceptible to damage from impacts.
The term ‘chamfering’ therefore refers to the application of these chamfers to a metal workpiece. Particular mention should be made of chamfers on the inner or back sides of bores, which present challenges for manufacturing companies.
